Storm Causes Road Closures at Acadia
Heavy rains on June 19-20, 2009 damaged some of the park's unpaved roads. Below is an updated list of road and trail closures in Acadia National Park. For current conditions visit the park's Temporary Closures page.
Storm Damage Closures
Lurvey Spring Road, Seal Cove Road, and Long Pond Fire Road are closed until further notice. There is a bike advisory on the carriage roads; washouts have damaged the carriage roads in some places, so use caution when riding. The restrooms at Bass Harbor Head Light are also closed.
Seasonal Closures
Roads and facilities are beginning to open for the season, but some remain closed. Read more about Seasonal Closures and Road Closures and learn which facilities remain open all year.
Park Loop Road Construction
Through late June, you may encounter delays on the Park Loop Road and Cadillac Mountain Road, and at Blackwoods Campground, as crews re-pave and stripe some park roads.
Wildlife Closures
The park closes certain areas each year to protect nesting wildlife.
* The Precipice Trail and Valley Cove Trail (formerly known as the "northern portion of the Flying Mountain Trail") are now closed to protect nesting peregrine falcons.
Safety Closures
A minor earthquake near the park on Monday, October 2, 2006, caused rock falls that damaged several trails in the east side of the park. The following trail is closed until further notice:
* East Face Trail (The park's trail crew is working to make this trail safe and to reopen it to the public as soon as possible. The trail sustained substantial damage.)
