Gulf State Park
Overview
Located in the city of Gulf Shores on the coast of Alabama, white sun-kissed beaches, a surging surf, seagulls and seashells greet you at Gulf State Park. Consisting of 6,150 acres with two miles of sugar-white sand beaches, Gulf State Park has modern and primitive camping, cottages, trails and fishing. Gulf State Park boasts the longest fishing pier in the Gulf of Mexico, at 1,540 feet. There is also tennis, group pavilions, an 18-hole golf course, a 900 acre lake for fishing, swimming, and water skiing, nature programs and picnic areas.
Activities
Camping
With nearly 500 campsites, Gulf State Park is a very popular camping destination. All of the camping pads are paved, and free WiFi is available. Despite its size, the campground does fill up, so reservations are recommended.
Fishing
Fishing enthusiasts can find a wealth of opportunities at Gulf State Park. Lake Shelby offers great freshwater fishing, while surf fishing from the beaches is popular among saltwater anglers. Anglers should also check out the park's pier, currently the longest in the Gulf of Mexico with 2448 feet of fishing space.
Golfing
Golfers should try out the 18 hole championship course with great views of the Gulf. The course is complete with a proshop and a snack bar.
Hiking
Gulf State Park offers a variety of unique hiking trails. The Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trails wind through areas of the park rarely seen, where beautiful oak hammocks, secondary sand dunes, creeks, and swamps will awe visitors.
Picnicking
Come have a picnic at the park's stunning new Beach Pavilion, sitting at the edge of the Gulf on the brilliant white beach. A large concession stand is open seasonally. A large picnic area in the swimming area of Lake Shelby is another great place to have lunch.
RVing
All 496 sites in the campground have paved pads, and the campground offers larger sites for RVs with pullouts. The campground boasts modern bathhouses, a camp store, and laundry facilities..
Tennis
Tennis courts are available to visitors.
Water Sports
Go for a swim in the Gulf from the park's 3.5 miles of beach.
