Lake Lurleen State Park is a scenic lakeside retreat set on the banks of a 250-acre lake named after Alabama''s only female governor. Lurleen Wallace, the wife of former Governor George C. Wallace, was a native of Tuscaloosa County and as governor was instrumental in funding a major renovation of Alabama State Parks. Attractions at the park include a modern campground, picnic area, beach with bathhouse, fishing piers, boat rentals, boat launches, a play area, and reservable picnic pavilions.

  • Boating

    Lake Lurleen is 250 acres in area, and is open to canoes, kayaks, and boats with motors of any size. Personal watercraft and water skiing, however, are not allowed. Visitors can rent aluminum fishing boats, canoes, and paddle boats at the park.

  • Bicycling

    The park boasts over 15 miles of trails which are popular among mountain bikers. Trails are well maintained by the Druid City Bicycle Club.

  • Camping

    Visitors can choose from 91 modern campsites overlooking the scenic lake. All sites have water and electric hook-ups, and thirty-five sites have sewage drain connections. A sewage dumping station and modern bathhouse facilities are available for the camper's convenience.

  • Fishing

    Anglers often come to Lake Lurleen to fish for bass, crappie, bream, and catfish. Fish from the bank, pier, or bring your boat and launch from the boat ramp.

  • Hiking

    Lake Lurleen has almost 20 miles of hiking trails, offering plenty of choices for visitors seeking anything from a short stroll to a day-long trek.

  • Picnicking

    Lake Lurleen State Park is a great place to have a relaxing picnic. Several picnic areas are available, with tables and grills provided. The park also has four pavilions available for rent.

  • RVing

    All 91 of the campground's sites have water and electric, and 35 sites have sewer hook ups. Campers can choose from sites overlooking the lake to sites nestled away from the water.

  • Water Sports

    Come to Lake Lurleen and enjoy fun in the sun on the sandy beach! A swimming area has been roped off for fun, safe swimming.



From I-20/59, take Exit 71B (I-359 Exchange) Continue on I-359 for approximately 5 miles to the intersection of US Highway 82 Turn left (West) on US Highway 82 Continue on US Highway 82 West for approximately 5 miles to Tuscaloosa County Road 21 (Upper Columbus Road) Turn right on County Road 21 (Lake Lurleen State Park Sign) Continue on County Road 21 for approximately 2.3 miles to another Lake Lurleen State Park Sign (Lake Lurleen Road -- No Street Sign) Turn right at Park Sign Travel approximately 2.2 miles to the park entrance.
