Take a step in the right direction—learn about how you can help the American Hiking Society save the trails!

American Hiking Society is the only national voice for hikers—dedicated to promoting and protecting America’s hiking trails, their surrounding natural areas and the hiking experience.

The organization represents millions of hikers who are committed to beautiful places to hike and who believe that the preservation of hiking trails and their environments is important and is a worthwhile legacy to leave future generations.

American Hiking Society's signature trail awareness program, National Trails Day®, inspires the public and trail enthusiasts nationwide to seek their favorite trails to discover, learn about, and celebrate trails while participating in educational exhibits, trail dedications, gear demonstrations, instructional workshops and trail work projects.

National Trails Day events include activities such as trail maintenance projects, hikes, bikes, paddling trips, photography clinics, moonlight walks and equestrian rides. The day also provides an opportunity to thank volunteers, land managing agencies, and outdoor-minded businesses for their support in developing and maintaining trails.

As a supporter of National Trails Day, and an official partner of the American Hiking Society, American Park Network has worked closely with AHS to promote trail awareness and maintenance.
