Welcome the crisp autumn air with warm apple delight!

It’s apple season! Why not take to the orchards for a day of wholesome, family fun. Apple picking is not only a great way to get outside with your friends and family but also a great way to stock up on snacks for the school year and a variety of scrumptious autumn treats! This apple crisp recipe brings out the bold smells of fall.

3 lbs tart apples
2 tbsp lemon juice
½ cup light brown sugar, packed
½ tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp ground nutmeg
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup rolled oats
4 tbsp cold butter (1/2 stick)

Peel, core and chop the apples; toss in a bowl with lemon juice. Allow to sit for a few minutes. In a separate bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Once combined, add to the apples; toss to combine.

In another bowl, combine flour, sugar and oats. Cut butter into 8 small pieces, and fold butter into flour with a pastry blender (or two forks) until mixture is crumbly.

Butter a 9-inch square baking dish. Spread apple mixture in bottom of baking dish then sprinkle with flour mixture. Bake at 375° for 30 to 45 minutes, or until apples are tender and topping is lightly browned.

For better taste, serve warm. For best taste, serve warm topped with vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
