Park Palates: Eleanor Roosevelt's Honey Drops

In honor of Women’s History Month, here’s a recipe for Eleanor Roosevelt’s honey drop cookies. During her years at the White House, Eleanor entertained many guests, and often served these cookies along with afternoon tea.

Ingredients
1 cup sugar
1 cup honey
1 cup butter
2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon almond flavoring
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup chopped orange peel
About 3 cups flour

Instructions
Preheat oven to 325°F. Mix all the ingredients, except flour. Add enough flour so that the mixture can be rolled into balls and placed on a cookie sheet without running. After placing rolled balls on cookie sheet, bake for 12 to 14 minutes.

Makes 12 dozen drops.
