Women’s Gear for a Weekend Adventure

August 23, 2011, 6:46 am

One of the great new trends in outdoor equipment is the rise in gear constructed specifically for women. This means more comfortable, form-fitting and functional clothing, packs and more for women who plan on hitting the trail.

Here we’ve outlined a few of our favorite pieces of women’s gear, as well as a few other great items to save room for as you pack for your next weekend adventure.

Gregory Jade 38 Women’s Pack

Gregory’s line of Jade packs is one of the company’s several lines designed specifically for women. This means the height of the pack and waistbelt location are calculated based on a woman’s height and body type, and that there are narrower, curved shoulder straps that rest far away from the insides of your arms and prevent uncomfortable rubbing.

The Jade 38 is ideal for a quick weekend or overnight trip, with targeted features to make packing everything you need a snap. A separate sleeping bag compartment and a handy water bottle side pocket help keep your gear in place, and quick-access waistbelt pockets are a perfect place to stash often-used items like chapstick or snacks. Our favorite feature, though, is the outer wrap-around zipper pocket, allowing you to open pack like you’d open a suitcase, meaning you can easily retrieve individual items without having to unpack all of your gear.

Lole Fly Tank

Lole, a women’s activewear company, produces a diverse line of clothing that they say is “inspired by well-being.”

The company is committed to getting women moving every day, and that shines through in their fashionable, comfortable clothing and gear. We love the Fly Tank, a versatile scoop-neck tank top that’s comfortable and fashionable, yet still technically savvy. The lightweight wicking fabric is quick- drying and has built-in SPF. The tank also has a built-in mp3 holder, meaning you can take your tunes with you on the go. Best of all, the tank is still pretty! Its twisted back-strap detailing and fitted construction means you’ll feel comfortable and chic—on the trail and off.

Ex Officio Give-N-Go Lacy Underwear

Ex Officio’s new line of Lacy Give-N-Go travel underwear is a perfect option for travelers and backpackers. This great new option in women’s travel gear is comfortable, yet still attractive, with lacy features and a variety of styles and cuts. Lacy tops and bottoms are lightweight and packable. Plus, they're made from quick-drying, moisture-wicking fabric that can easily be washed one night and worn the next morning, meaning you’ll only need to bring a few pairs with you—saving valuable space in your pack. The fabric is also treated with Aegis Microbe Shield™ to control odor-causing bacteria. This is performance underwear that works well and looks good too. What more could we ask for?

Dermatone Coffee-Flavored Lip Balm

Just because you’re on the trail, it doesn’t mean you can’t still have some of your favorite comforts from home. That’s where Dermatone comes in. We love this natural, coffee-flavored lip balm, enriched with a bit of caffeine for a quick burst of energy when you’re on the trail.

The lip balm is also is enhanced with SPF 23 for broad-spectrum protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays. As an added bonus, this tasty, natural lip balm is made in the USA.

Justin’s Nut Butter

Every hiker knows not to hit the trail without some tasty, nutritious snacks. One of our favorites is Justin’s Nut Butter, a new twist on traditional peanut butter, which is an energy-packed staple for many backpackers.

Justin’s uses organic and natural ingredients and comes in eight delicious gourmet flavors, including classic peanut, maple almond, and our favorite, chocolate hazelnut. It’s rich and creamy, but still nutritious. And lucky for outdoor enthusiasts, all of Justin’s tasty flavors come in lightweight, portable squeeze packs.
