Spring’s Newest Water Bottles

March 16, 2012, 8:42 am

This spring brings a flurry of new, innovative water bottles to the market. And with national parks like Zion and the Grand Canyon moving away from selling bottled water, now is a better time than ever to get used to bringing your own bottle instead of buying water.

Here’s a roundup of some of the most interesting bottles we’ve seen this season.

Vapur Element

Vapur Element Water BottleDubbed the “anti-bottle,” the Vapur Element is a foldable, reusable, freezable, washable, and attachable alternative to disposable water bottles. The Element is made of lightweight, collapsible plastic that can easily be folded up and stashed in a pack, and antimicrobial lining helps keep the bottle clean. It has a cap with a nice, tight seal that’s still easy to open. Either drink through the easy-open spout, or twist off the whole cap to fill the bottle.

The attachment piece on the side makes it easy to clip to the Element to your bag, and provides a handy way to secure the bottle once it’s folded up. With two convenient sizes (0.7 liters and 1.0 liter), you’ll be able to carry enough water to stay hydrated on your next hike.

Vapur Element Bottle $11.99 - $13.99. Available online at vaupr.us or at specialty outdoor stores, sporting goods stores, national parks gifts shops, tourist shops and hardware stores. The Vapur doesn’t officially hit the market until March 19; sign up be notified when it’s available.

BlenderBottle SportMixer

BlenderBottle SportMixerThe BlenderBottle SportMixer bottle takes beverage portability beyond your average water bottle. The SportMixer makes it easy to blend all kinds of beverages (and can even replace a blender) when you’re on the go or at the campsite.

Every bottle comes with a unique BlenderBall—an electropolished, surgical grade, stainless-steel whisk that helps you create smooth, lump-free nutritional drinks, meal replacements, and smoothies in a durable, easy-to-carry bottle.

Use the bottle to dissolve protein powders or electrolyte formulas into your water quickly and easily, or blend up a meal replacement during an extended hike or climbing adventure. Before a camping trip, fill the bottle with pancake mix and then add liquid when you’re ready for fireside flapjacks. Just by shaking, the BlenderBall will mix the ingredients—then pour the batter directly into the pan, keeping your campsite mess-free and eliminating the need for bulky mixing bowls and accessories. The Blender Ball is also great for making scrambled eggs on the go!

BlenderBottle SportMixer $14.99 online at blenderbottle.com or at select pharmacies and health, and nutrition stores nationwide. Enter your ZIP code online to find a retailer near you.

Liberty Bottleworks

Liberty Bottleworks Earth Day BottleLiberty Bottles are a great option for the environmentally conscious outdoor enthusiast. The bottles are made of 100% recycled aluminum and are also made in America on American machinery.

The bottles have a tapered neck, making it easier to drink without splashing water, but still have a wide-mouth opening, allowing for easy cleaning and filling. The unique bottle cap offers a secure, airtight seal, meaning it’s easy to carry water in a pack, or even to seal in the bubbles of a carbonated beverage. The Liberty Bottleworks signature quarter-turn top doesn’t use threading like normal twist-on lids. Instead, it clicks into place, making it easy to be sure that your bottle is closed tightly.

Liberty Bottles are printed on a custom digital press, so there’s a huge variety of bottle colors and designs to choose from!

Liberty Bottles $16 online at libertybottles.com and a variety of local retailers including REI and Whole Foods Market.

Eau Good Bottle

Eau Good Water BottleLooking for a way to improve the taste of the tap water in your bottle? The Eau Good bottle from Black+Blum uses binchotan active charcoal to purify water by reducing chlorine, mineralizing the water and balancing the pH. The bottle is specially designed to hold a piece of active charcoal, which locks into place in the bottle. After adding water to the bottle, it takes about 6-8 hours for the charcoal filter to activate completely. Then, you’ve got a bottle of clear, tastier tap water. The filter can be used for up to six months before it needs to be replaced.

The chic design makes this the perfect bottle for using when you’re on the go around town, in the car, at the office, or on a casual hike.

Black+Blum Eau Good Bottle (including one filter) $20; charcoal filter refills $4. Available online at black-blum.com or at select retails nationwide. Find the retailer nearest you by calling (877) 360-9222.
