National Park of American Samoa
National Park Visitor Center
This visitor center, at Pago Shopping Plaza west of Fagatogo, has a small collection of Samoan artifacts, seashells, and corals. You can see a short video, examine maps and photos, and ask questions of the friendly staff. The park itself has units on Tutuila, Ofu, and Ta'u, protecting more than 12 square miles (30 sq km) of tropical rain forests, coastal cliffs, and coral reefs. Two endangered species of flying foxes are there. Authorized in 1988, American Samoa National Park is the only park in the U.S. system established primarily on leased lands. For the most part, hiking trails have yet to be blazed.
