Celebrate the reopening of Oracle State Park with a free day of guided bird walks, Kannally ranch-house tours, speakers and other attractions on Saturday, Feb. 4.

State lawmakers closed the park two years ago because of budget cuts. Several other state parks also were closed or forced to operate on reduced schedules as part of the cuts. Most have been reopened by local communities or through state partnerships with communities and local groups.

But reopening Oracle State Park, which features the Kannally ranch house and 4,000 acres of desert, was a struggle.

The Friends of Oracle State Park and volunteers helped position the park to reopen. The transfer of a ranger to the park helped finalize the deal.
