South Tongue River
Species Present: Rainbow trout, Brown trout, Brook trout
Seasons: Fishing allowed year-round, ice usually clears around mid-April.
Camping: Dead Swede, Owen Creek, Prune Creek, Sibley Lake, Tie Flume Campgrounds or dispersed camping is allowed outside of the riparian zone.
Comments: The South Tongue River has been managed as a wild (no stocking) trout fishery since 1991. Recent fish population estimates, conducted after stocking was discontinued, indicate that wild Rainbow, Brown and Brook trout populations range between 4,000 and 5,000 trout per mile, 65 to 75% of which are greater than 6 inches long.
