October is American Cheese Month

We couldn't be happier! October 2011 marks the very first American Cheese Month, which means a whole 31 days chock-full of cheesy goodness.

American Cheese Month, an annual celebration cheese, cheesemakers and cheesemongers means lots of great events, discounts and tastings nationwide.

Cheese-savvy folks across the country are celebrating by hosting hands-on cheesemaking classes, free tastings, beer and cheese pairings and even full-blown cheese festivals. Check out the event calendar to find an event near you.

Or, if you live in New York City or Seattle, get your hands on a $10 Cheese Passport, which entitles you to 40% off a different American cheese every day during October.

And, as if we needed anything else to sell us on the celebration all things cheesy, the whole thing goes toward a good cause! The goal of American Cheese Month is to raise awareness of the quality and diversity of American cheeses, as well as to increase support for family farms, traditional cheese production methods, and sustainable production models. Revenue from select American Cheese Month events will support the American Cheese Education Foundation.

Tune in later this month for cheese recipes and an exclusive look at cheeses recommended by the good folks over at the American Cheese Society.
