Enjoying Fall in Philadelphia

If you live near downtown Philadelphia, you are in luck! Historic Philadelphia Inc. is putting on events throughout the fall that will bring history to life and celebrate the season.

Franklin Square, one of William Penn’s original five squares, will be a bustling hub of activities. Come to the Pumpkin Patch during the day or try your hand at Spooky Mini Golf during the evening.

On October 20, the second annual family fundraiser PumpkinFest will have paint-your-own-pumpkin face painting, cupcake-decorating, fall carnival games, Spooky Mini Golf, unlimited carousel rides, raffles and prizes, and more! There will also be a costume parade. Individual tickets are $35, family four-packs are $125 in advance. At the door, the price increases to $40 for an individual ticket and $130 for a family.

For a more historical adventure, participate in Independence After Hours, an evening walking tour visiting some of the landmarks of Philadelphia’s Historical District. Populated with Colonial characters that bring history to life right where it happened, Independence After Hours in entertaining and educational. The tour begins at Independence Hall and includes a three-course meal at the Historic City Tavern where Colonial townspeople entertain guests. Tours are available through October 27 and depart at 5:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The tour lasts two and a half hours and is $80 for adults, $50 for children 12 & under, $75 for seniors, military, and students. Dining gratuity is included.

For those 21 years and older, Historic Philadelphia, Inc. offers Tippler’s Tour, a weekly tavern tour of Colonial and modern day watering holes. Guests will learn historical facts about the traditions of drinking and will be lead by a Colonial host in Colonial drinking songs and toasts. From now until November 8, you have the option of participating in the Tippler’s Tour: Ghosts and Toasts. At 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays, the Colonial pub crawl will feature seasonal drinks and a trip to the Christ Church Burial Ground!
