Break out the fireworks, and American flags – it’s Independence Day! This Fourth of July, celebrate like it’s 1776 in Historic Philadelphia, the birthplace of our nation. Get to Historic Philadelphia and celebrate with our founding fathers all week!

Historic Philadelphia, Inc. offers educational adventures in the birthplace of democracy all year, providing Americans with the opportunity to experience their nation in a dynamic way. This Independence Day is the perfect time to jump in and see what Historical Philadelphia, Inc. has to offer. Ten one-of-a-kind, award-winning Once Upon A Nation Storytelling Benches are scattered all over Philadelphia’s Historic District, telling the stories of our nation’s history in the places where they actually happened. Kids and adults alike are invited to uncover the secrets of our past from colonial characters as everyone celebrates their independence. Grab a seat and learn about our story first-hand this Independence Day!

After visiting the Liberty Bell, come on over to Franklin Square, a site designated solely for family fun. This play place features Philly Mini Golf, a renovated vintage marble fountain, playgrounds and the Philadelphia Park Liberty Carousel. Franklin Square is proud to feature the Lightning Bolt Express train ride and other free activities for the family on Independence Day. Don’t forget to experience Benjamin Franklin’s journey at the PECO Theater for the Liberty 3D show as well!

Make sure you bring comfortable shoes as you head out on Historic Philadelphia, Inc.’s famous immersive walking tours. Join in on a special, July 4th nighttime tour of Independence Hall to avoid crowds and to experience the summer nights of Philadelphia in the way our founding fathers did. The Independence After Hours Tour is perfect for July 4th!  For those over 21, explore Philadelphia’s taverns with Tippler’s Tour on Independence Day and give a toast to freedom!

Don’t forget to visit the Betsy Ross House as well! Preserve our nation’s legend and heritage as you tour the house and raise the flag with national icon Betsy Ross. Join the party on July 4th for Betsy’s Independence Day Bash, and ring the ceremonial bell and engage in activities with the whole family. On July 5th, be a part of the First Friday Movie Series and enjoy a tour of the house and watch a movie in the courtyard. Even your taste buds can celebrate from July 6th-7th as you join in on Colonial Chocolate Making for free!

Throughout the week, give your wallet a break and celebrate with free programs. Raise the flag at the Betsy Ross house at 10 a.m., participate in the Military Muster at Signers’ Garden at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. daily and hear the Declaration of Independence read behind Independence Hall at 3:45 p.m. at no cost.
