July is Park and Recreation Month!

America’s parks and recreation areas are some of the nation’s greatest treasures. These places help encourage fitness, adventure, knowledge and appreciation of our country. This month is your time to share what you love about parks and recreation! During Park and Recreation Month, let's get out, enjoy our parks and encourage our friends to join the conversation about the positive impact that parks and recreation have on our lives!

The National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) is sponsoring the movement to get out and enjoy America’s treasures this month. The Park and Recreation Month website is a great resource to learn about how to share our parks with fellow Americans. The NRPA is excited to help you promote events and share your experiences on public forums. There is even a photo contest with prizes!

As part of Park and Recreation Month, there will be celebratory events at parks nationwide. Start the month out with a bang with Independence Day activities! Join the City of Glendale Parks and Recreation Department for a stars and stripes patriotic celebration, celebrate America’s birthday with Goodyear Parks and Recreation Department’s “Star Spangled 4th” festivities and proclaim our freedom with canon firing and a reading of a Children’s Bill of Outdoor Rights at Angel Island State Park. Experience the beauty of our nation with Riverside Parks and Recreation Department’s Independence Day 5k and enjoy a blast from the past with Wilder Ranch State Park’s Old-Fashioned Independence Day.

The festivities don’t end on July 4th - The National Park and Recreation Month celebrations last throughout July! For a complete list of events and information, please download a PDF of the schedule. Make every day an adventure in America’s beautiful parks and recreation areas this month!
