FREE Movie Night and Stargazing at Tarzana Recreation Center

On Friday, July 11, Celestron, the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, Tarzana Neighborhood Council, and American Park Network will host a free outdoor movie night, telescope demonstration and night sky event at Tarzana Recreation Center in the San Fernando Valley.

Members of the community are invited to join for a free screening of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, as well a free stargazing event with local astronomy experts.

In advance of the movie, Celestron will set up two large telescopes, which visitors can learn how to use under the guidance of experts from the Los Angeles Astronomical Society. During and after the movie, visitors will have the chance to look at the stars. If the skies are clear, it should be a great night to see Saturn. Attendees will also have the chance to enter a raffle for a Celestron COSMOS FirstScope tabletop telescope.

Two food trucks (Slammin’ Sliders hamburgers and a to-be-determined dessert truck) will be available so that moviegoers may purchase snacks on-site. During the movie, Walgreens will provide free popcorn and candy for kids, and Bank of America will provide free bottled water for kids. Additionally, guest may bring their own picnics, blankets and beach chairs.

The telescope demonstrations will run from 6 p.m. through 8 p.m., and the movie will begin at dark (approximately 8:30 p.m.). Night sky viewing will begin after the movie is over.

The free movie will take place at the baseball field at Tarzana Recreation Center, 5655 Vanalden Ave., Tarzana, CA 91356. For more information, please call (818) 343-5946. Limited on-site parking is available. Car-pooling, bike riding or walking to the event is suggested.
