LA's Peck Park Hosts FREE Outdoor Movie and Stargazing

On Friday, July 18, Celestron, the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, and American Park Network will host a free outdoor movie night, telescope demonstration and night sky event at Peck Park in San Pedro.

Members of the community are invited to join for a free screening of “The Sandlot,” as well a free stargazing event with local astronomy experts.

In advance of the movie, Celestron will set up two large telescopes, which visitors can learn how to use under the guidance of experts from the Los Angeles Astronomical Society. During and after the movie, visitors will have the chance to look at the stars. If the skies are clear, it should be a great night to see Saturn. Attendees will also have the chance to enter a raffle for a Celestron COSMOS FirstScope tabletop telescope.

Food and beverages will be available at the park snack bar. Additionally, guests may bring their own picnics, blankets and beach chairs.

The telescope demonstrations will run from 6 p.m. through 8 p.m., and the movie will begin at dark (approximately 8:30 p.m.). Night sky viewing will take place during and after the movie.

The free movie will take place on the lower baseball field at Peck Park in San Pedro. After entering the park, moviegoers should drive past the baseball field near the entrance, proceed toward the gym and tennis courts and park in the lower lot, nearest to the lower baseball field. Movie Night in the Parks is presented by Celestron, the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, Adventure 16 and American Park Network.
