Where To Eat

The cuisine within Cane River National Heritage Area is as unique as the region's culture and heritage. Hungry visitors can sample such favorites as Creole gumbo, Natchitoches' famous meat pies, and fried catfish along with many other wonderful Cane River dishes.

Campgrounds

The National Red Dirt Wildlife Management is a popular area for various hunting opportunities. State licenses and regulations apply, along with additional management preserve permits that are issued by the Forest Service. Seasonal designated camping areas of "hunter camps" are establish in and around the management preserve during hunting season. Be careful and observe gun safety and hunting regulations. Fishing and hunting licenses may be purchased at retail outlets or at the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office.
