The Peekaboo Trail lies east of Chesler Park and crosses three drainages to reach Peekaboo Camp. There is a lot of up and down hiking from one drainage to the next, that may be strenuous with a large backpack. Two ladders are in place for hikers to lower themselves into Salt Creek Canyon. Water may be accessible in Salt Creek. Backpackers should check conditions at the visitor center. The eastern end of this route is accessible from Salt Creek Road and used by four-wheel drivers.
This hike begins at the Squaw Flat Loop A Trailhead from the road immediately east of the campground. From the trailhead walk southward a short distance to a fork in the trail. Bear left at this fork following the Squaw Canyon Trail as it leads toward that drainage. As the route enters the drainage the trail forks with Peekaboo Trail leading eastward (left).
Peekaboo Trail ascends out of the drainage and over a pass to the Lost Canyon drainage. The track ascends 160 feet before reaching a high point of 5,300 feet between these two drainages. From that point is descends into Lost Canyon reaching the Lost Canyon Trail one and a half miles from Squaw Canyon. At this junction follow the Peekaboo Trail as it leads eastward (left) ascending out of Lost Canyon.
The track ascends 200 feet over slickrock, levels and descends slightly before beginning to ascend again. The route ascends another 160 feet before making its final descent into Salt Creek Canyon. This descent includes the use of a long ladder to lower down a steep rock wall to Peekaboo Camp.
