A new website from the National Park Service Chesapeake Bay Office features innovative tools for exploring the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail. The 3,000-mile trail along the bay and its major tributaries offers endless opportunities for exploration and fun on land and water. The new website helps visitors find the best places to get on the trail, plan their trips, and share their trail adventures.

Get out your sharpest crayons and get ready to color outside the lines, if you like.The National Park Service is looking for guidance on how to transform the Capt. John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail from an act of Congress into the nation's first national park with liquid rather than dirt trails. Getting there won't be easy. There are no models for something this sweeping.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Park Service, in a Memorandum of Agreement signed in October, will expand their collaboration on Bay-related programs, including the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail and NOAA's Chesapeake Bay Interpretive Buoy System.
