FLAT ROCK -- First Lady Laura Bush paid a visit Monday to the historic Carl Sandburg estate in Flat Rock, N.C., and announced a $50,000 grant to aid youth education programs at the park.
During her visit to the national historic site dedicated to the award-winning author and poet, Bush sat outside a goat barn with children in the park’s junior ranger program and talked about Abraham Lincoln, who was the subject of a series of Sandburg biographies, one of which won a Pulitzer Prize in 1939.
