The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are located on two separate islands in the New York Harbor. They are served by the same ferry, so visiting them   together allows visitors to make the most of their time, though it can make for a long day if you're going to experience both the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island to the fullest. It will take 5-6 hours to visit both islands and the museums, as well as round-trip transportation from Battery Park.

The ferry leaves Battery Park every 20-40 minutes, but you need to allow time for clearing security (if you purchase your tickets in advance). You'll need even more time if you want to buy tickets once you arrive at Battery Park.

After about a 10 minute ride, the ferry will stop at Liberty Island first. Whether you want to visit the Statue of Liberty or not, you'll need to disembark. If you want to tour Liberty Island or enter the Statue of Liberty, you can catch a ferry on to Ellis Island whenever you are done. You'll need a Monument Pass in order to visit the museum or enter the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. Monument Passes are free, but there are a limited number available (they are included with advanced purchase Reserve Tickets, but available on a first-come, first-served basis for other visitors).

Another 10 minute ferry ride will bring you to Ellis Island. Here you will want to plan to allow at least an hour to visit the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. I highly recommend taking the free Ranger Led Tour and also allowing yourself time to explore the museum on your own.

Once you are done at Ellis Island, you can board the ferry again to return to Battery Park. The ferry leaves Ellis Island every 20 minutes. Be sure to get the ferry bound for Battery Park, as there are also ferries going back to Liberty Island for visitors who took the ferry from New Jersey.

Statue Cruises Website offers a helpful Tour Combination Schedule that will give you a sense of how long it will take to visit either or both islands, depending on what you intend to do (audio tours, museums, etc.).

The directions to Arches, as provided by the NPS are as follows: "The entrance to Arches is located 5 miles north of Moab, UT along Highway 191."

There are three visitor centers at Canyonlands. For directions to each, follow the links at NPS page for Canyonlands.

Bikes, bay views, history rule on Angel Island

People are like salmon. They are imprinted by times, places, smells and activities. Come September, old feelings can come back, like those September days as a youngster when you rode a bike to school. Now is a good time to get on a bike. A few strokes of the pedals ...

Most of the bus services we're familiar with leave SLC in the morning - around 10am.  You might be able to get a private trip to leave later in the day, depending on how many are in your party.

Here are a few links to check out and perhaps worth a call to check on your exact dates:

The South Rim of the Grand Canyon is open 365 days a year.  All visitor services: camping, lodging, and restaurants are available year round. Reservations are strongly recommended during the busy summer season.

Some facilities are closed during the winter depending on the severity of the weather.  For more information as you get closer to the trip you can call the General Visitor Information Line at (928) 638-7888

Acadia National Park in fact does not have any structured lodging within its boundaries.  That said, one of the things that makes the park (and the towns on Mount Desert Island) so special, is the interconnectedness between the community, its resources and the park itself.

The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce is the absolute best resource for ALL things Acadia.

Go to the IDNR website:
http://www.in.gov/dnr/
and look around there.  It is a big organization, so you have to know what kind of job you want and are qualified for - maintenance, enforcement, education, etc.  Indiana government is facing budget shortfalls like most states, so jobs may be in short supply.  As for county jobs, you will have to call or visit the particular county website  - counties do not coordinate job openings with each other.  There is no substitue for getting to know the local workers personally, and volunteering for your favorite organization is a great way to get your foot in the door.  Park agencies always need volunteer help.
