Primary access to the North Cascades National Park and Ross Lake National Recreation Area, and most park activities, is off of State Route 20. Visit the NPS website for maps and directions.

Tuolomne Meadows is a very special part of Yosemite National Park and well worth the drive.  You should probably allow 2-3 hours to make the drive from the South Entrance (and the Mariposa Groves) up to the Tuolomne high country.  The drive can be done more quickly, but to be safe and enjoy the surroundings definitely build in the extra time.  Keep in mind, there is a trail store up at Tuolomne if you should need any supplies.

Happy/Safe Travels!

Brookville Lake is over 16 miles long and is actually made up of three separate Recreation Areas:  Mounds, Quakertown and Whitewater.  Just past the entrance to Mounds, on the way to the water, there are picnic tables and shelters.  Whitewater has a brand new playground are and is typically considered the best part of the lake for fishing.  There's so much to do on the lake, we absolutely suggest talking with the folks at the Indiana Department of Natural Resrouces at more length before you go.  Click here for more information and/or call: (765) 647-2657.

Have a great trip!

Our favorite sights to see and things to do at the Grand Canyon are listed in the Only a Day section of this page.

If you'll be there in July, you can join one of our free Photography in the Parks workshops.

You must get the permits with the NRRS. Permits are not available in the park or on a first-come, first-served basis. Demand for permits will be very high; availability may last only a matter of minutes on the first day permits become available. Each permit has a service fee of $1.50 (which covers the cost of NRRS processing the permit; Yosemite does not receive any money).

One of the most popular and most beautiful slot canyons near Glen Canyon is Antelope Canyon.

Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument also has several slot canyons.

You can also read more about slot canyons at americansouthwest.net.

Im not that familiar with the actual Ranger led hikes, since I tend to set out on my own or with a fellow employee or two.

I recommend the Total Yellowstone Page's hiking section:

http://www.yellowstone-natl-park.com/hiking.htm

Hikes are broken down into Day Hikes and Longer Hikes, and descriptions are given for most of the trails.

Also, stop in the visitor center at the location you're based at (Canyon, Old Faithful and Mammoth have the best centers) and see what the Rangers themselves have to say.

In general, my favorite time to visit the parks is the beginning or end of the season.  There are the fewest of the summer visitors, and most important, you miss the hottest time of year for Arizona.  In Canyon de Chelly, you may want to visit between Memorial day and Labor day if you want to catch any of the Ranger-led activities.  Throughout the summer and rest of the year, you can find other companies to guide your trips through the park.
