Overview

Enjoy recreational activities from fishing to hiking and much more at Clendening Lake! Clendening Lake is located in Harrison County, Ohio on the Brushy Fork of the Stillwater Creek, 1/2 mile east of Tippecanoe, Ohio, and 9 miles southeast of Uhrichsville, Ohio. The Corps' Clendening Lake was constructed primarily for flood control, recreation, fish and wildlife management. Clendening Lake has been retained in a natural setting with no commercial development except the marina. Clendening Dam is a rolled earth fill with impervious core, 65 feet high, 3,700 feet long, with a top width of 20 feet, and a base width of 460 feet. Tours of Clendening Dam, Intake Structure, and Flood Control Facilities are available to the public. Recreation facilities are operated by the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD).

Restrooms are provided at the Clendening Lake Day Use Area on a seasonal basis (April - October). Universally Accessible Facilities are provided at the Clendening Lake Day Use Area on a seasonal basis (April - October).

Activities

  • Boating

    There is a 10 horse power limit on all boats on Clendening Lake. A Public Launch ramp for the boating enthusiasts and fishermen is available near the Clendening Lake Dam year round. The Clendening Marina operates April - October.

  • Bicycling

    Bicycles are permitted on the state highways, and county roads.

  • Camping

    Camping is available at Clendening Marina June through September. There are 80 electric lots, 20 non-electric lots, 4 full hook-up lots, and shower.

  • Fishing

    Fishing is permitted at the Clendening Lake Day Use Area and below the dam.

  • Hiking

    Limited hiking is available around Clendening Dam. A more extensive hiking trail system is available around Clendening Lake.

  • Hunting

    Hunting is available thourh the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD). The MWCD owns 54,000 acres of land and water in the Muskingum River Watershed, most of which is open to public access. Given the rural setting of the MWCD reservoirs behind the dams - which offer flood reduction and water conservation benefits - outdoor recreation thrives. One of the more popular activities at the MWCD reservoirs is hunting. Through a memorandum of understanding with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' (ODNR), ODNR is responsible for all fish and wildlife management on Conservancy District lands and lakes. All hunting and fishing rules, regulations and license requirements of the State of Ohio apply.

Camping at Clendening Lake is available April - October. The Clendening Marina operates April - October.

Driving

Clendening Lake is approximately 10 miles southeast of Uhrichsville, Ohio. At Uhrichsville, take State Route 800 south to 1/4 mile east of Tippecanoe, Ohio. Turn onto Milarcik Road (County Road 69), approximately 1/2 mile down the road is the entrance to Clendening Dam.
