Overview

Crescent Lake is a popular recreation lake in a setting of woodedshorelines, sandy beaches and brilliant blue-green water. The lake is a large natural body of water formed in a glacial deposit high on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Range. This 4,000-acre lake offers angling opportunities for kokanee salmon, rainbow trout, brown trout, and mountain whitefish. In addition to fishing, people come to this lake for sailing, swimming, water skiing windsurfing and camping. Crescent Lake Dam which is part of the Crescent Lake Project, is located at the outlet of Crescent Lake.

Activities

  • Boating

    The three boat ramps on Crescent Lake are at Crescent Lake Campground, Spring Campground and Crescent Lake Lodge.

  • Camping

    There are 47 individual camping units each having a fireplace, table, and parking spur. (Max Spur length: 50 feet). Sites which are suitable for tent, trailer, and motorhome camping are available, but no hook-ups are provided. The campground road is paved. A small area of the campground is set aside for day-use picnicking.

    Drinking water is provided from a deep well through a piped distribution system. Refuse bins are located in the campground, and garbage is picked up once each week. Vault toilet facilities are provided throughout the campground. Firewood is not provided, but can be gathered from the forest nearby.

    Campground vegetation is a mix of east and west side types including Douglas fir, white fir, ponderosa pine, lodgepole pine, Manzanita and chinquapin.

    Crescent Lake Resort is just across the dam from the campground and offers a number of services including food, camping, fishing supplies, and boat rentals.

  • Fishing

    Best months for fishing are June, July, and August. Species present in Crescent Lake: Present: Kokanee salmon, lake trout (mackinaw), rainbow trout, brown trout and mountain whitefish.

    Popular fishing methods are: bait, lures, and flies.

    Dropping bait off the underwater ledges near springs and Contorta Point can be effective. Before July most anglers troll with plugs and flatfish. After July fish deep with downriggers are used to go after the lake trout.

    Fly anglers usually fish with a 6-weight rod using a intermediate sinking line or a floating line.

  • Picnicking

    A small area of the campground is set aside for day-use picnicking.

  • RVing

    Sites which are suitable for trailer, and motorhome camping are available, but no hook-ups are provided.

  • Water Sports

    Water sports allowed on Crescent Lake: sailing, swimming, water skiing and windsurfing. Keep in mind water is drawn off for irrigation throughout the summer, so by summers end the lake level could drop as much as 15 feet.

    Nordic skiing and snowmobiling.

Driving

Crescent Lake is approximately 75 miles southeast of Eugene. From Crescent, Oregon, drive 12.2 miles west on Rd. 61, then 3.5 miles north on Hwy. 58 , then 2.6 miles west on Rd. 60.
