Sherwood Island State Park
Sherwood Island State Park is Connecticut's first state park is still one of its finest. Have a leisurely lunch in the shade of the picnic grove, swim in Long Island sound, or view marsh life from the observation platform at Sherwood Island. The park offers bathrooms, parking, picnic shelter, picnic tables and surf chairs, Surf and shore fishing are allowed anywhere on the shoreline outside of swimming areas.
This is alcohol-free park. Please do not bring alcoholic beverages. From October 1 to April 14, pets on a leash are permitted. Pets are not permitted in the park during the summer season from April 15 through September 30.
Sherwood Island State Park, on the shore of Long Island Sound in Westport Connecticut, is a peninsula that covers 234 acres of beach and is very popular for fishing. Surf and shore fishing is allowed anywhere on the shoreline outside of swimming areas.

The park is open from 8 a.m. to sunset. Vehicle access to some parking lots may be restricted during winter months.
Sherwood Island State Park gets a good deal of water; May is the wettest month; the driest month of the year is February.
In 1995, a coalition of concerned outdoorsmen, sportsmen, environmentalists, and citizens banded together to form the Friends of Sherwood Island State Park, Inc. Its stated purpose: to preserve, maintain, improve and enhance Sherwood Island State Park for the benefit of the general public; to solicit and raise funds; to educate the public about the resources, needs and value of the park.
From I-95 north and south: take Exit 18 to access the Sherwood Island Connector. Follow the Connector directly into the park.
From Route 1 north and south: take the Sherwood Island Connector in Westport. Proceed past the I-95 entrance/exit ramps directly into the park. From Route 15 northbound: take Exit 41 and proceed south on Route 33 to Route 1. Follow Route 1 north to the Sherwood Island Connector in Westport.
From Route 15 southbound: take Exit 42 and follow Route 57 south. Go left onto Route 33. Proceed south on Route 33 to Route 1. Follow Route 1 north to the Sherwood Island Connector in Westport.
