Wetmore & Riding Run Bridle Trails

The Wetmore and Riding Run Bridal Trails in Cuyahoga Valley National Park are the result of tireless efforts of the Medina Chapter, Ohio Valley Trail Riders in cooperation with NPS. As a result, over 20 miles of equestrian trail provides the riding enthusiast with an adventure in the southern valley over old logging roads, former farmers' paths, and through wooded hillsides. There are two main trailheads: five trails are located on the eastern side of the Cuyahoga River and two trails over more difficult terrain located on the western side. The 2.75-mile Valley Trail serves as a connector between the two areas. Each trailhead has an expansive parking area with hitching posts and picnic tables.

Wetmore Area riders may begin along Wetmore Trail, which is a 4 mile moderate loop north of Wetmore Road. It takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete with an elevation change of 250 feet. For a lengthier ride, several choices exist. Dickerson Run dips below Wetmore Trail offering a mile extension with sights of varied plant life ranging from tulip poplars and maples to expanses of Buckeyes. Another alternate route is Tabletop Trail that slices through the eastern edge of Wetmore. This 1.6-mile trail takes the rider through a beech and maple woodland. Dickerson and Tabletop Trails have elevation changes of less than 200 feet making them slightly easier to negotiate than Wetmore Trail.

Also from the Wetmore Area, Langes Run Trail and Butler Trail travel south of Wetmore Road. (Note that Langes Run can be accessed from the eastern edge off Dickerson Trail.) Many beginners enjoy Butler Trail, a 1 mile easy loop completed in approximately 20 minutes with little elevation change. Langes Run offers a more challenge stretch of 4.5 miles with a number of descents and climbs. The average rider completes the very scenic Langes Run in 2 hours.

From Langes Run, Valley Trail offers a connector to the eastern side of the Cuyahoga River Valley. Valley Trail is 2.75 miles and leads eastbound to Everett Road Covered Bridge Trailhead where Riding Run and Perkins Trail may be accessed. Both of these trails range in length from 3-4 miles and are rated moderate to difficult. Each has an elevation change in access of 250 feet.

There are plenty of horse-watering areas along the trails, picnic tables at both trailheads, several chances to explore other areas of the park including the Hunt Farm Visitor Information Center, the Towpath, Hale Farm and Village, and more.

Future development of this southern bridal trail network includes connecting Valley Trail to the northern bridal trails of Cleveland MetroParks' Brecksville and Bedford Reservations.
