National Park Service finds human remains in Delaware River
May 15, 2008, 1:21 pmTwo National Park Service employees found human remains in the Delaware River this afternoon while on a boat patrol.
The remains were found about one mile south of Sambo Island inside the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation area, according to the National Park Service.
The Warren County medical examiner and New Jersey State Police are investigating. The medical examiner has received the body and is making an examination to determine the person’s identity.

Tourist finds one angler's remains
April 20, 2008, 8:52 pmThe body of Timothy Panella was recovered today from the waters of the Delaware River near Walpack Bend within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. A park visitor made the discovery at approximately 1 p.m. and called the Monroe County Control Center, which then contacted the National Park Service.

Unlike the last two years, popular recreation areas in Western Washington have escaped serious damage from this week’s heavy rain. Mount Rainier National Park and Gifford Pinchot National Forest were devastated by flooding in 2007. Last year, flooding hit Olympic National Park.

Sen. Byron Dorgan, (D-N.D.) said he agrees with the North Dakota Game and Fish Department on the elk situation at Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Since the unveiling of the National Park Service’s Draft Elk Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement on Dec. 17, Game and Fish officials have voiced their displeasure that the document did not include their “Alternative G,” as a viable option.
