Bookstore
During the summer months, the Monument's Ranger Station features a bookstore, operated by our non-profit partner, the Sequoia Natural History Association (SNHA).
When the Ranger Station is open during the summer season, visitors can purchase maps, guides, books, and other materials related to the Postpile and Sierra Nevada. Purchases must be made by cash or check (U.S. dollars).
If visitors would like to purchase items when the Ranger Station is closed, or during the off-season when heavy winter snows block access to the Monument, they can contact SNHA directly. For more information, please visit SNHA's website, or call them at (559) 565-3759, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm (Pacific Time).
Lodging
There are no lodging facilities within the Monument.
Nearby in the community of Mammoth Lakes, however, visitors can find a wide assortment of motels, hotels, and condominium rentals.

Where To Eat
There are no restaurants or concession-operated facilities within the Monument.
The only eating establishment within Reds Meadow Valley can be found at Reds Meadow Resort at the Mule House Cafe. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served throughout the summer. Reservations are recommended for dinner.
In addition to the cafe, there is also a small general store that sells an assortment of grocery items and camping supplies.

Unlike the last two years, popular recreation areas in Western Washington have escaped serious damage from this week’s heavy rain. Mount Rainier National Park and Gifford Pinchot National Forest were devastated by flooding in 2007. Last year, flooding hit Olympic National Park.

Sen. Byron Dorgan, (D-N.D.) said he agrees with the North Dakota Game and Fish Department on the elk situation at Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Since the unveiling of the National Park Service’s Draft Elk Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement on Dec. 17, Game and Fish officials have voiced their displeasure that the document did not include their “Alternative G,” as a viable option.

Between Dec. 27 and Jan. 2, more than 500 small earthquakes shook Yellowstone National Park. The swarm of quakes was centered below Yellowstone Lake, beginning southeast of Stevenson Island and migrating north toward Fishing Bridge before quieting.
