Avalon State Park
Manager's Message Turtle season is in full swing. There are three turtles that regularly nest on our beaches including the leatherback, loggerhead, and green. They start nesting in this respective order. The leatherback is the largest and rarer of the turtles. The loggerhead, a smaller variety, is still up to 350 pounds! The green, a bit bigger, was almost hunted to extinction for its meat and beautiful shell; their numbers are finally climbing again. If you would like to know more about sea turtles, please inquire about an interpretive program at the Ranger Station (772) 468-3985. Ft. Pierce Inlet State Park is now seeking volunteer applications for the 2008 summer & early fall seasons. Do you have your own RV? Do you enjoy volunteering to help our state parks? Summer is our busiest season... and the park is packed! If you are interested in volunteering at the park during the summer months (May-November), please contact Tessa Sheridan at (772) 519-2135 for more information. If you are new to the area or just visiting you may be unsure of the newest fishing regulations. Stop and ask at the Ft. Pierce Inlet Ranger Station for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission fishing regulations. These are available for your convenience in both English and Spanish versions. Come on in and enjoy the Real Florida - Steve Eibl, Park Manager Welcome to Avalon State Park One of the state's newest seaside parks, Avalon has more than a mile of increasingly rare undeveloped beachfront. The park provides habitat for many species of wildlife. Threatened and endangered sea turtles, like the loggerhead, Atlantic green, and leatherback, nest on the beach during the spring and summer. Dune crossovers protect the fragile dune ecosystem. We welcome swimmers, snorkelers, fishermen and sunbathers for beach recreation. Swimmers and snorkelers are advised to be cautious of underwater obstacles left behind by amphibious warfare exercises during World War II. Visitors can enjoy a meal at sheltered picnic tables overlooking the beach. Located along A1A on North Hutchinson Island in St. Lucie County, four miles north of Ft. Pierce Inlet State Park.
