Bahia Honda State Park
Manager's Message
We would like to ask all campers and visitors in the park to conserve water; we are under severe water restrictions because of the drought in Florida. Our fresh water is an expensive and precious commodity. It comes from wells in Florida City and is pumped through almost 100 miles of large pipe down the Keys. Please remember, the following are prohibited: washing vehicles, RVs, boats, boat motors or trailers, filling swimming pools and campsite outside showers.
For further measures to help us conserve water:
1. Report any water leaks you see in the park to park staff
2. Never let water spigots or hoses leak
3. Never let the water run in the sinks or showers if you are not using it
Be sure to visit the Sand and Sea Nature Center, Thursday through Monday, to learn more about the park. We have a sea life display, a small marine aquarium and several environmental activities to explore. Cool off in the air conditioning and watch a nature video. Park staff will be available to answer your questions.
Don't miss our puppet shows every Friday at 10:00am starting July 11th. Fun for the whole family!
For your safety and the safety of others, fireworks are prohibited in Florida State Parks. Please check with the ranger station for a listing of local fireworks displays.
The loggerhead sea turtles continue to crawl onto our beaches to nest. We now have 22 nests.

Welcome to Bahia Honda State Park
Henry Flagler's railroad to Key West turned the remote island of Bahia Honda Key into a tropical destination. Today, the island is home to one of Florida's southernmost state parks, known for beautiful beaches, magnificent sunsets, and excellent snorkeling. Visitors can picnic on the beach and take a swim, or simply relax and enjoy the balmy sea breezes that caress the shores year-round. Anglers can fish from shore or bring a boat and launch at the boat ramp. The park's concession rents kayaks and snorkeling gear and offers boat trips to the reef for snorkeling excursions. Bahia Honda is an excellent place to see wading birds and shorebirds. The nature center can introduce nature lovers to the island's unique plants and animals. Full-facility campsites and vacation cabins are available. Located 12 miles south of Marathon.
