Bald Point State Park
Manager's Message For those who are into birding, the Neo Tropical migration has started. Many different types of migrating birds use Bald Point as a stopover before they make their long flight across the Gulf to Central America. This migration will peak after the first cold front in mid-September. Bald Point is one of the best areas in the Southeast to view this migration south, as well as the return north in the spring of the year If you enjoy hiking or bicycling, Bald Point has many trails to explore. For canoeing, we have many freshwater lakes, tidal creeks and Ochlockonee and Apalachee bays. Now that hot days have returned, red fish and trout are feeding in the shallows and can be caught from our small fishing pier. Morning and evening times seem to offer the best results for fishing The park opens at 8:00 AM and closes at sundown. If you wish to fish later into the evening or earlier then 8:00 AM you can do this by purchasing a Florida State Park entrance pass. These passes can be purchased at Ochlockonee River State Park Ph No. 850-962-2771. Biting insects are always present, so if you plan on visiting us, please come prepared with insect repellent. If you would like to check the beach swimming water testing results for anywhere in Florida log on to http://esetappsdoh.doh.state.fl.us/irm00beachwater/ Please come visit us at Bald Point and enjoy its multitude of natural beauties and recreational opportunities. Thank you. - Kevin Patton, Park Manager Welcome to Bald Point State Park Some of the most picturesque scenic areas along north Florida's Gulf Coast can be found at this park. Located on Alligator Point where Ochlockonee Bay meets Apalachee Bay, Bald Point offers a multitude of land and water activities. Coastal marshes, pine flatwoods, and oak thickets foster a diversity of biological communities that make the park a popular destination for birding and wildlife viewing. Every fall, bald eagles, other migrating raptors, and monarch butterflies are commonly sighted as they head south for the winter. Bald Point offers access to two Apalachee Bay beaches for swimming, sunbathing, and fishing. Other activities include canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, and hiking. Facilities include a fishing dock and picnic pavilions. Located off U.S. 98, one mile south of Ochlockonee Bay. Take State Road 370 for 3 miles to Bald Point Road.
