John Tanner State Park is operated by Carroll County. Parking fees apply daily, including Wednesdays. Annual passes are good through July 2011.

This west Georgia park is best known for having the largest sand swimming beach of any Georgia State Park. It is a recreational haven for water lovers looking for boating and fishing opportunities as well. Visitors can enjoy camping, picnicking, miniature golf, volleyball and horseshoes. Six motel type units are located near the beach, each with a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, living area and bedroom. The park is named after a local businessman who operated the property as a private park from 1954 until 1971.

  • Boating

    Private boats with electric motors are permitted on the parks 12 and 16 acre lakes.

  • Camping

    31 Tent, Trailer, RV Campsites. Campsites have a fire ring, picnic table, grill and water.

  • Fishing

    Fishing is allowed on the lakes. Visitors should follow all state rules and regulations.

  • Golfing

    The park operates a miniature golf course for visitors to enjoy.

  • Hiking

    The park has a 3/4 and one mile paved trail that highlights the nature found in the park and circles the lake.

  • Picnicking

    In addition to picnic tables located throughout the park there are four picnic shelters available for reservation.

  • RVing

    There are 31 Tent, Trailer, RV Campsites. Those interested should contact the park for amenities provided.

  • Water Sports

    John Tanner State Park is home to the largest swimming beach of any of the states park.


The day use portion of the park is open 7AM-10PM year round.
