Overview

Rocky Mountain PF A is located in Northwest Georgia near the Chattahoochee National Forest on 5,000 acres of Oglethorpe Power Corporation land. The area includes two recreation lakes totaling 559 acres. Largemouth bass and sunfish are the most common game fish species in both lakes. Numerous wildlife species frequent the area, providing visitors an opportunity to observe wildlife in a natural setting. The lakes, with a backdrop of forested ridgelines, offer visitors a scenic and relaxed setting in which to enjoy fishing, hunting, picnicking, hiking, camping and other outdoor activities. Fees: daily ($3 ) or annual ($30) Rocky Mounatin PFA parking permit required (one per vehicle). Restrictions: It is illegal to possess alcoholic beverages anywhere on the area. No one may rappel, rock climb or hang glide.

Activities

  • Boating

    Two lakes are available to boaters (202 & 357 acres). Concrete boat ramps are available.

  • Camping

    Seasonal RV camping, and group camping are available by reservation only. Sites 2 - 7, 9 - 36 are available for trailer, tent, and RV camping. Sites 8 and 37 are available for double trailer, tent, and RV camping. Sites A-I are available for walk-in camping.

  • Fishing

    Fish species available include largemouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, channel catfish, crappie, and hybrid striped-white bass. There are two lakes (202 & 357 acres). PLEASE NOTE: New Heath Lake regulations - Lake is now open the 1st - 10th of each month and there is now a slot limit on largemouth bass. All largemouth bass 14" - 20" must be released immediately. There is still a creel limit of 5 fish, only one of which can be over 20". Concrete boat ramps and fishing jetties are available. A WMA license is not required but a valid Georgia Fishing License is required to fish on this area.

  • Hiking

    Hiking trails are available throughout the park. Trail use is restricted to pedestrian and day use only. Most trails require vehicular access to the trail head area. All trail heads are located at Mountain View Drive.

  • Hunting

    Deer - Archery only (Either Sex): September 12 - January 1; Sign-in: All Archery Deer Hunters must sign in at the main entrance the first (and only first) time they hunt for deer at Rocky Mountain during the 2009 - 2010 Season. Turkey - Archery only: March 20 - May 15; Sign-in: All archery turkey hunters must sign in at the main entrance the first (and only first) time they hunt for turkeys at Rocky Mountain during the 2010 season. Small Game - Archery only: August 15 - February 28; any small game with an open state season may be taken (no sign - in). Waterfowl - Early Teal Season Heath Lake (Anglers Haven Rd.); September 19-27; Shooting hours begin 1/2 hour before sunrise. Sign-in: All Heath Lake waterfowl hunters must sign in at the Anglers Haven Road entrance the first (and only first) time they hunt for waterfowl on this portion of Rocky Mountain. Waterfowl - Early Canada Goose Season Heath Lake (Anglers Haven Rd.); September 5-27; Shooting hours begin 1/2 hour before sunrise. Sign-in: All Heath Lake waterfowl hunters must sign in at the Anglers Haven Road entrance the first (and only first) time they hunt for waterfowl on this portion of Rocky Mountain. Waterfowl - Duck and Goose Antioch Lake (East & West) (Mountain View Dr.); January 1-31(OPEN: Monday-Saturday: CLOSED: Sunday); Shooting hours from 1/2 hour before sunrise. Sign-in: All Antioch Lake waterfowl hunters must sign in at the main entrance the first (and only first) time they hunt for waterfowl on this portion of Rocky Mountain. Heath Lake (Anglers Haven Rd.); November 21-29 & December 12 - January 31 ; Shooting hours begin 1/2 hour before sunrise. Sign-in: All Heath Lake waterfowl hunters must sign in at the Anglers Haven Road entrance the first (and only first) time they hunt for waterfowl on this portion of Rocky Mountain.

  • Picnicking

    A group picnic area is available by reservation only.
