good jacket
Expensive but good. I took this Jacket for glacier travel and ice climbing. After full day walking and climbing on the pouring rain I was impressed with this highly waterproof softshell.

Light and a wind blocker!
This is an awesome light weight jacket. It is low profile; yet an high performing jacket. The hood is perfect when light rains drops. I live in SF and it is perfect. I am 6 feet and 180 lbs. Size large is perfect, but on the tighter side. If you want an extra layer inside, XL would be better.

Great windproof softshell!
I have had one of the Venta SV shells for the last two seasons and used it for almost everything except rainy days and it has performed great. The Windstopper fabric blocks the wind and the DWR finish repells the snow. The sizing is perfect - no long arms like the Gamma MX hoody - enough room for a light mid layer. Pit zips come in handy on those long uphill skins. Durability is great with good abrasion resistance. I like it so much that I purchases a new one in Candy Apple Red so that my ski buddies could find me on storm days!!!
