Mountain Hardwear Women's Convertible Pack Pants Mountain Hardwear: Women's Convertible Pack Pants

Zip-off leg configuration gives you two distinct looks without taking up extra baggage space.

Mountain Hard Wear's Convertible Pack Pants are perfect travel companions under partly cloudy skies or in regions where nippy mornings serve up sunbaked afternoons. Unlike most convertible travel pant designs this one has reinforced seat and knees making it better suited for trekking in isolated areas where tailors rarely tread. The seamless conical waist is chamois-lined so it feels better than most traditionally cut backpacking pants especially if you're bearing a heavy pack. If you're headed to dusty and dirty places consider the Mountain Hard Wear Pack Pant--it doesn't convert like this one but it does offer many of the same features and fabric.

bit the bullet a few years ago and purchased these after the hipbelt caused chaffing on a backpacking trip. LOVE THEM! pockets make sense for hiking and backpacking--out of way of hipbelt. dries fast in rainy weather easy to convert to shorts w/out having to take off my boots. easy to clean on the trail. have withstood sand rock dirt and rain quite well!

Sits too high at the waist, and material feels heavy Image: 3 Stars

Well i bought this because of the excellent reviews. However I must say that this is my first impression and I have not worn it hiking yet. So this pair pants may be excellent when time comes for it to perform. Ok what i didn't quite like about it: 1. Material - I was expecting more lightweight material so this feels more 'cottony' and heavy to me. Didn't seem like a technical material but that's just based on feel. 2. Cut - the pants are instead true to size. I normally wear size 0/2 pants with Banana Republic and Gap. But I ordered size 6 and it was rather "snug". the pants sit on the waist and I am used to pants on the hip. So I did not quite like that. However i guess that's due to their patented conical waist. 3. ZIPPER - I feel the zipper of the convertible when I'm wearing the full long pants and it is quite unconfortable. 4. LENGTH - I should order a petit. But there wasn't and i ordered the regular. SO the waist feels very snug (like I think if I eat a full meal I'd have to open the buckle). Yet the rest of the pants is too baggy for me. And the pants are too long. However that could be fixed with the cinch. Overall: I'm not sure if I am going to keep it.

These pants are great. Just what I was looking for. Water/stain resistant convertible and heavy duty. It was an added bonus to have the soft material almost like fleece lining the areas that can cause problems the most like inside the waistline seat and knees. Seem a little more heavy duty and thick than I'd expected but great for my shifts at the ice rink to keep me warm.

I've had other convertible pants through the years. I purchased the Mountain Hardwear pants for myself and thought they were soo great; I bought some for my wife.
