We use these for just about every kayak bike and construction item we carry. I do believe they did at one time have a piece of fabric located under the buckle to prevent damage to either the item being hauled or the rack it was attached to. I have not found any of those for some time. Still this is the best strapping I have used but I would like to see that additional fabric added back under the buckle.
