Oakley Polarized Half Jacket XLJ Sunglasses Oakley: Polarized Half Jacket XLJ Sunglasses

XLJ means more eye coverage than other Half Jackets.

Whether you hike ski cycle fly-fish snowshoe or snowboard the Oakley Polarized Half Jacket XLJ is probably the only eyewear you'll ever need outside. The XL stands for extra large but only in lens size--not the size of your head. The XLJ has extra coverage along the bottom and sides of the lenses so you have a wider visual field than the popular Half Jacket without any excess weight. The polarized gold iridium lens is excellent for bright light and cutting the glare (especially on the water). Like other Oakley Half Jackets the Polarized Half Jacket XLJ features the same featherweight O Matter® frame with Unobtainum® earsocks and steady grip anchors.

Great fit, great lenses Image: 5 Stars

When I opened the box they looked small and at first they felt a bit ackward with the close fit to the eyebrows. But I had the opportunity to test them last week in the mountains : bright sun on white snow. What a protection for your eyes - with great contrast. I would certainly recommend the gold iridium lenses for skiing on a bright sunny day. By the way the fit is perfect over a headband.

Oakleys are the best sunglasses. I love the polarized half jacket XLJ sunglasses with the ability to change the lenses.

I'm not the biggest fan of Oakley because I think some people wear the eyewear as status symbols rather than for sports apps so it took some serious arm-twisting from a friend before I bought a pair of these XLJs. (Good thing I picked a pair up before every athlete at the Summer Olympic Games showed up wearing the things or I would have never touched these Oakleys.) It's hard to convey how lightweight the XLJs are--but if you wear them on top of your head you'll probably forget where you placed them. The frame design is amazingly unobtrusive and exceptionally comfortable. I have a wide face (XL hat size) and the frame fit perfectly without adjustments. I found that the lens coverage was better than my friend's Half Jackets especially while staring down into reflective glare while fly fishing. I almost made it through the entire summer without scratching my XLJs but it finally happened when I was indoors and wearing the things on top of my head (I forgot and didn't duck). I'm glad I bought this model because I can replace the lenses without tossing the frame. You could pay more for other sunglasses but I feel like I'm getting my money's worth from this pair.
