Great shoes for wintertime. Keep feet warm and dry! I normally wear size 8.5, and I sized down.

I have bee wearing these shoes for about 7 years now. I love them. They are light and hold up over backpacking trips and trail running. They are perfect for me because the back of the shoe is a little taller with more padding than most and protect my heels. I never have to break in the shoe, they are great as they are, but I do add insoles because there is not really a built in arch in the shoe.

I have been looking for the perfect hiking shoe ever since my last ones died on me, but I had the hardest time finding something that was GTX, sturdy, and made my feet happy (I am a size 7.5, flat feet, wide toe box, narrow heel). I am a shoe snob, especially when it comes to a shoe that is going to allow me to travel miles on end and over crazy terrain without feeling like I want to amputate my legs. Thanks to Salomon, I finally found the perfect hiking shoe! I was hesitant at first to how they would hold up when hiking but my friend that has completed the AT (Appalachian Trail) said it was the most popular shoe on the trail. He said that the people wearing them only used 1-2 pairs during the whole trail whereas he went through 5-6 pairs of shoes. He quoted that every Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX wearer loved their shoes! Reasons why I love them: I can slide my feet in them easily. I like the lacing system, except that they do create a bulge in the little pocket you stuff them in (not a big deal). They are extremely sturdy and I feel like I can conquer the world in them (what more can you ask from a shoe)! GTX is great...have hiked in the rain and snow with no problems. They look cool! Overall, they are just an awesome shoe that gets the job done and you look good while doing it! Pay attention to the fit tip! I was in doubt because I always seems to be the odd ball out when fit tips arise, and then I end up having to return and reorder. I called up Salomon to ask about the fit and the rep told me she is a 7.5 in every other shoe in the world besides these. She told me to size down a half size. I hesitated but decided to go with a size 7 and they fit perfectly! My feet would have been swimming if I had went with my normal size. Moral of the story: Size down half a size, but don't be a hater if they don't fit like you want them to! Buy these shoes and you will ask yourself how you got through life this far without them! Seriously, I love mine!
