Suunto X-Lander Watch Suunto: X-Lander Watch

Your ultimate outdoor watch. An altimeter/ barometer/ thermometer/ compass all in one!

The Suunto X-Lander is your ultimate expedition watch. The altimeter option displays your current altitude with vertical ascent/descent rate in meters per minute or feet per minute. It also records altitudes for measuring progress between stages and has an automatic 24-hour altitude memory with a logbook for altitude ascent/descent rate information and cumulative ascent/descent measurements. The barometer displays the atmospheric pressure (mbar/inHg) as well as the temperature. It also records the differences in measurements so you can quickly follow changes between barometric pressure and temperature during your outings. An automatic four-day memory records atmospheric pressure information and the watch features an adjustable sea-level pressure function. The compass function displays your bearing in degrees and features a north-south arrow. There are also options for bearing tracking and a declination adjustment. The waterproof aluminum casing features an extra-durable mineral crystal glass and a carbon fiber back. A tough leather band adds the perfect touch of class making this watch ideal for those brief forays into the urban jungle too.

Gorgeous Look & Snazzy Band Image: 5 Stars

How to start? The leather band on the X-Lander is a wonderful touch of class - but I actually bumped into an even snazzier band on a 2005 model - according to a sales rep at REI - that has the leather band beat in both looks and durability. Keep an eye out for this one. Back to the watch - it's the same as the beloved Suunto vector but the Aluminum finish and the green tinted glass - bought one last night and have received numerous compliments since then. Features are top notch and the compass is easy to calibrate - I thought it would be tougher. The manual is very detailed but the overall watch menu system makes it easy to get around. The compass allows for the locking in of a bearing - very easy to configure - so you can try to hold a certain course. Very sturdy but very light - looks heavier but its not. Still playing with it - but loving it so far - can not go wrong - keep an eye out for the one with the other type of watch band - this band is slick.

Easy to read in low light. Backlight works like a champ. Compass feature very easy to use and quite accurate even in a vehicle. Mine has survived 7 months in Iraq thus far without a scratch. Only challenge is with the band: if you work out with it on wash the band with soap and water or it starts to smell; also my band is wearing out (tearing where I buckle it).

I have had my X Lander for two years now and I still only have one complaint.. I can't seem to find a new watchband for it.. I love the leather band but I have worn it out. The new replacement band is rubber and I have looked but not intrested. The distinct leather band with the fine stiching just ads something to the watch. I have had many complements as well as people who want me to take it off so they can get a better look.. All functions of the watch work very well from sea level to fifteen thousand feet I have never had any issues with the watch.

I ordered mine via a catalog without seeing it and WOW! What a surprise. Very sturdy and elegant watch. The leather band is top comfort and durable. Looks very high-tech everyone will notice it if you wear a short sleeve shirt. All the functions works great. Some are complex and might be confusing at the beginning just don't loose your manual! The backlight is kind of weak and the watch is very thick it might not be comfortable under a long sleave business shirt.
