While The North Face Modem Daypack is an inch shorter than the utilitarian Vault Daypack it offers the same carrying capacity (1850 cubic inches) along with a few features specifically oriented toward urban commuters and students who use portable electronics. Inside you'll find a universal sleeve that fits most small laptops and even accommodates a mid-size hydration bladder for hot hikes. Along the front you'll find a front stash pocket with a headphone wire for listening to tunes on your MP3 or CD player. With a basic organizer in the front pocket and plenty of room inside The North Face Modem pack is more about what you make it and less about expensive specialized features so you never pay more for things you might not need on the trail or out on the road.

This backpack is great for traveling and outdoor trips! I love how it holds my 17" laptop. The only thing I was hoping for was a place to put my water bottle! There's no holder for any sort of drink.

I ordered this because it seemed to offer the bare basics in a pack with the addition of a laptop slop. Well it delivers. Well constructed. Not the coolest looking perhaps but clean and functional (I ordered black but a color would give it more "edge"). Has 3 main pockets: the main one inside for books files even a bundled sweater. Also has a padded sleeve which fits my 15" macbook like a glove. (17" would probably be too tight) There's a 2nd compartment which can take another slim file and has various small pockets for pens keys etc (and my flash camcorder). Finally there is an external section that can handle small quick-grab items like a wallet or CD/MP3 player - there's a hole for your heaphones to feed through. All in all a well made well priced basic that can handle everyday and carry-on duties. Comfy to wear too. There's also a carry handle at the top for when you don't wanna sling it.

The service was great & I really like this backpack. I carry my macbook in the computer pocket to college everyday & I have noticed that the outside is nice & waterproof. I am really glad I bought this bag & from Altrec!

I've had this pack for about 6 months now and it is by far the best pack ive ever had. its sturdy comfortable and looks good what else could you want. only downfall is that there is no drink holder.
