The trailhead, across from the Lake McDonald Lodge along Going to the Sun Road, begins at Sperry Trail. Parking is available at the Lodge parking lot. Just a short distance down the trail it changes to Gunsight Pass Trail. Several trails will branch off as you hike the trail. Stay on the Gunsight Pass Trail until after you cross the footbridge over Snyder Creek, at Crystal Ford, where you take the Snyder Ridge Fire Trail to Fish Lake.
This is an easy hike through a thick forest area with a viewpoint along the way of Snyder Creek and Lake McDonald. Hikers and horseback riders heading to various locations along the way heavily use the trail. You will pass a horse barn along the way used by the horse rental of Glacier Park.
The Snyder Ridge Fire Trail is quiet and beautiful, crossing Jackson Creek and Sprague Creek before arriving at Fish Lake. The lake is surrounded by forest and a good place to have lunch while you enjoy the scenery
