Snyder Lake Trail

The Trailhead begins at Sperry Trail along the Going to the Sun Road across from the Lake McDonald Lodge. The trail changes to Gunsight Pass Trail after a short distance and is heavily used by hikers and horseback riders.

This hike is moderately difficult. After about a third of a mile you come to a view point which overlooks Snyder Creek and Lake McDonald. The trail winds up Snyder Ridge and then switchbacks gradually into the canyon. After passing the Mount Brown Lookout Trail, at the two-mile point, take the Snyder Lake Trail. Following Snyder Creek the trail slowly climbs toward Snyder Lake. In the area where the trail becomes damp in some areas and overgrown with cow parsnips (large leaved plants with white flowers on top) watch for bear sign and make plenty of noise so a bear won?t be surprised by your presence. Getting closer to the lake you pass a rocky area where pika may be heard or seen. Mount Brown, Little Matterhorn and Mount Edwards providing an amphitheatre like setting surround Snyder Lake on three sides.
