East Horseshoe Mesa Trail

The East Horseshoe Mesa Trail leads one mile from the Grandview Trail to the Tonto Trail. It descends from the mesa top 1,360 feet to the Tonto Platform, following a western tributary to Hance Creek. This trail is often difficult to navigate due to washouts and rock falls.

To reach the East Horseshoe Mesa Trail hike north from Grandview Point along the Grandview Trail. Along the way you'll notice remnants of the mining activity that created this route. After descending 2,180 feet in two miles you'll reach a trail junction. The track leading to the right is the East Horseshoe Mesa Trail.

It begins by descending steeply from the mesa top. Within a half mile of the Grandview Trail the route reaches a spur trail leading right to Page Springs. This is the main water source for everyone using the Grandview and East Horseshoe Mesa Trails. Continue along the main route at this junction to reach the Tonto Platform. The route now parallels the western side of a small drainage. It continues to descend one mile along this drainage to meet the Tonto Trail at approximately 3,760 feet.
