Powell Saddle Trail

The Powell Saddle Trail leads five miles along the eastern rim of the Powell Plateau from Swamp Point southward. The route provides access to a remote and expansive flat area in the western canyon. Ancient Pueblo People once used this plateau for farming and a diverse group of plant and animal life inhabit it now.

Begin this hike from Swamp Point at the end of Forest Service Road 268B. The track leads westward from the trailhead, descending 1,400 feet to Muav Saddle in the first half mile. The trail forks at this point with the North Bass Trail leading to the east and the Powell Saddle Trail leading to the west. Turn right and cross Muav Saddle.

Continuing westward the Powell Saddle Trail ascends 1,600 feet to Powell Plateau. Reaching the plateau the track turns southward and descends slowly along the western rim of Muav Canyon. The tread winds along the top of the plateau for two and a half miles before ending on the northern side of Dutton Canyon.
