Hawkins Reservoir Campground
Overview
Hawkins Reservoir Campground is a beautiful developed campground with fishing, camping and picnicking opportunities.
Recreation on public lands in the Pocatello Field Office is managed in three distinct areas: the Blackfoot River Special Resource Management Area (SRMA), the Pocatello SRMA and the Pocatello Extensive Recreation Management Area (ERMA). Recreation sites in the Pocatello Field Office includes developed campgrounds, semi-developed camping facilities, non-motorized trails for hiking, equestrian use and bicycling and motorized trail systems for OHV recreation. Although the Snake River Vista Recreation Site lies in the BLM's Burley Field Office, the Pocatello Field Office administers the site, which features camping, fishing and boating on the Snake River.
The Blackfoot River SRMA contains 14,720 acres of public lands along the Blackfoot River and Wolverine Creek. This 34-mile segment of the river has become popular for non-motorized boating and fishing. Other recreational opportunities include rock climbing, hiking, camping, picnicking and hunting.
The Pocatello SRMA covers 33,382 acres of lands located near Pocatello. It includes the West Bench, Chinese Peak, Blackrock Canyon, Camelback, North Pocatello, South Pocatello and Moonlight Mountain areas. Major recreation activities include OHV use, mountain biking, hiking, running, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, hunting and picnicking.
The Pocatello ERMA encompasses the remaining portion of public lands found outside of the two SRMAs. It was identified in order to emphasize and provide recreation opportunities on public lands within an hour's drive from Pocatello. Recreation sites in this area include Black Canyon/Bear River, Heart Mountain Spring, Goodenough Creek, Redpoint, Pipeline and Maple Grove. Recreation activities include camping, picnicking, non-motorized boating, hunting, fishing, motorized boating (in specified areas), caving and hiking.
