Hugh Butler Reservoir and Red Willow Dam consist of four dams, reservoirs, and irrigation systems that provide irrigation, flood control, fish and wildlife conservation, and outdoor recreation opportunities. Numerous tracts at each reservoir and impoundment provide food and cover for pheasant, quail, small fur-bearing animals, and mule and white-tail deer, making it a prime location for wildlife watching and photography. There are 2,960 acres available for public hunting in season. The reservoir is open 24 hours with fair access roads for visitor use. Fishing season is year-round with available species in the reservoir's including walleye, crappie, white bass, channel catfish, and wipers. The reservoir and surrounding land is also popular for boating, water sports, hiking, camping, RVing, and picnicking. The irrigation supply reservoir experiences moderate fluctuations, so boaters should be aware of the water level before going on the water. The reservoir peaks at 1,630 surface acres.
