Argyle Lake State Park
Argyle Lake Hunting Area
LOCATION: Two miles North of Rt. 136 at Colchester, near Macomb, IL, 900 Huntable Acres, 1722 total acres.
Upland game hunting is allowed on a limited basis. Please check with the park office for specific dates, species and regulations.
SPECIAL REGULATIONS - GENERAL
1. Severe weather and safety conditions can result in closing all or part of Argyle Lake State Park.
2. It will be unlawful to possess or consume alcoholic beverages while hunting in the area.
3. Hunters under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
SITE REGULATIONS - UPLAND AND FOREST WILDLIFE
1. Statewide regulations will apply and a special permit allocated through the regular drawing. Permit holders and standby hunters must register at the check station by 5:00 a.m. each day of the hunt. Unregistered permits are void after 5:00 a.m. Vacancies will be filled each day by a drawing at 5:00 a.m. Standby hunters will be issued a one day, site specific permit at the check station for $5.00.
2. Spring turkey hunting is limited to 4 hunters per day.
3. Hunting is restricted to those portions of the area posted as open to hunting.
4. All hunting must be with shotgun or bow and arrow only, except that 22 rimfire rifles may be used for raccoon and opossum between sunset and sunrise.
5. Hunters engaged in quail and rabbit hunting must wear cap and outer garment of blaze orange totaling 400 square inches.
6. If the check station is not manned, all hunters must register in the boxes provided.
7. Season starts the Tuesday after Labor Day. Statewide closing date.
8. Only one tree stand is allowed per deer permit holder. Tree stands must be removed at the end of each day during the hunting season.
OTHER FACILITIES: Camping, hiking, boating, and fishing, snowmobiling, interpretation, and concessions.

From Chicago, take either Interstate 80 or Interstate 88 west to Interstate 74. Take Interstate 74 South to Route 34. Take Route 34 West to Route 67. Take Route 67 South to Route 136. Take Route 136 West to Colchester and the park is 2 miles north of Colchester on Coal Road. Coal Road runs north of the Sinclair Station in Colchester.
