January 20, 2009, 4:11 pm

Thousands of scientists, students and volunteers will gather at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore in May to record every species living there during a 24-hour period.

The park along the shores of Lake Michigan is one of 10 National Park Service properties selected by the federal agency and co-sponsor National Geographic for a "BioBlitz." The events are being held during each of the 10 years leading up to the 100th anniversary of the creation of the National Park Service in 2016.
