Yuletide

The General Grant was designated "The Nation's Christmas Tree" on April 28, 1926, and as a National Shrine in 1956. Every year since then, the town of Sanger, 45 miles west of Kings Canyon, has sponsored, in cooperation with the NPS, a special Yuletide celebration in Grant Grove. The event is held the second Sunday in December. Beneath the tree's snow-laden branches, the high school choir sings carols, NPS rangers place a wreath and high school students present the colors. Charter buses transport you from the Sanger Chamber of Commerce at 1348 Church Street. For more information, please call (559) 875-4575.
